Led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, arrived to attend the 89th birthday ceremony of the Dalai Lama at his main temple in McLeodganj. The delegation received a warm welcome from the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA). Chief Minister Tamang will be the chief guest at the official celebration held at Thekchen Choeling Tsuglakhang in Dharamshala on July 6th.

The delegation from Sikkim comprises various dignitaries, including the Chief Minister, the Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, and several ministers and MLAs. The celebration in Dharamsala also included a significant educational exposure tour for a group of 41 individuals from Sikkim. This group, which includes representatives from the local Tibetan Assembly in Gangtok. Executive members of the Six Tibetan Associations, and 28 college and school students. Embarked on this tour to coincide with the Dalai Lama’s birthday. The tour aims to provide participants with insights into the functioning of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and deepen their understanding of Tibetan culture and traditions.

Before commencing their journey, the delegation met with Chief Minister Tamang. Who expressed the government’s commitment to supporting the educational tour. Addressing the group, Chief Minister Tamang encouraged the students to make the most of their visit. On the first day of their tour, the delegation visited the Norbulingka Temple in Dharamshala. Where they explored Tibetan handlooms and handicrafts, gaining insights into the rich cultural heritage of Tibet. Tenzing Tsephel, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC). Expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Tamang for organizing this educational tour, marking it as a pioneering initiative for Tibetan students from Sikkim. “We are honored to have such a thoughtful Chief Minister,” Tsephel remarked.

In another part of India, the Bomdila Buddhist Society (BBS) organized a mass plantation drive in and around the Bomdila Pass in West Kameng district to mark the 89th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Trees are plant every year on the Dalai Lama’s birthday. An initiative led by the 12th Guru Tulku Rinpoche of Thubchog Gatsel Ling Monastery. “We must take care of the fragile environment,” Rinpoche said, expressing concern over global warming and its impacts on Earth. He also prayed for the long life and good health of the spiritual leader. Over 300 saplings were planted on the occasion, symbolizing the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship and honoring the Dalai Lama’s teachings on the interconnectedness of all life.
